What is Nutritional Therapy?
It can help you with health matters ranging from high cholesterol, elevated blood pressure, menstrual irregularities or stress, to attaining a healthier body composition, increased energy or working with you on a specific goal such as training for an endurance event.
Nutritional Therapy at Exceptional Health applies the naturopathic approach adopting the seven principles of natural medicine.
1. First do no harm. Safe and effective natural food and lifestyle advice is provided for the individual. The over arching philosophy is to maximise nutrients and minimise toxins.
2. Nature has the power to heal. The body is tremendously clever in its ability to achieve wellness. With the use of wholefoods, good hydration and positive lifestyle choices, you will be able to enhance and optimise your own health and wellbeing.
3. Identify and treat the cause. Why are you experiencing certain symptoms or feeling a certain way? What are the drivers? Your nutritional therapist will work with you to uncover and address the root causes, so you leave with a better understanding of how to tune into your body and nourish it at all levels. You will be empowered to make better choices to optimise your health.
4. Physician as teacher. Your nutritional therapist educates, empowers, encourages and motivates self responsibility. By considering all of the body systems, we work together to find where there may be imbalances. These, for example, could be hormonal or blood sugar/insulin resistance issues, muscular or skeletal stresses or specific nutritional deficiencies. We can also work together to help to identify specific allergies, excesses or food intolerances.
5. Treat the whole person. We are each unique so each person will be treated as an individual with their own complex set of physical, emotional, spiritual, social and environmental factors that contribute to their current health and wellbeing.
6. Prevention is the best cure. The approach moves away from the orthodox ‘break down and repair’ to one of preventative maintenance enabling you to experience abundant energy and joie de vivre.
7. Establish health and wellness.
How does Nutritional Therapy work?
Prior to your appointment you will be sent a food and mood diary to complete to include details of any medication or supplements you may be taking. When you arrive, we will go through your main aims for the consultation.
- Your initial consultation will last one hour, at a cost of £60.
- You will receive a tailored treatment protocol within 48 hours of your appointment. This will consist of practical nutritional and lifestyle advice to incorporate in your daily life and may include appropriate therapeutic supplement recommendations.
- Your nutritional therapist will be very happy to answer any questions regarding your treatment protocols provided, so you feel fully equipped to move forward and make the recommended changes.
- Follow up consultations are strongly encouraged in order to discuss how you are feeling and how you are adapting. These typically take 30 to 45 minutes. The first follow up is ideally between 4 to 6 weeks after your initial consultation and is at a cost of £40.
